The NEC Summer Orchestra Institute is an intensive program emphasizing immersive musical experiences. A focus on concentration, practice and performance techniques, interpretation, phrasing, and musicianship is also prioritized. Students also develop communication and leadership skills through their musical collaborations, learning the joy of music making while developing lasting friendships.
The intensive two-week session includes ensembles, individual coaching, and daily sectionals led by a superb faculty. Students may also sign up for additional private lessons. Designed to promote the skills that will lead to success in the field, the SOI emphasizes finding joy in music while developing musically and building the skills necessary to prepare for a musical future. This festival is built around the orchestral experience and students are able to learn valuable lessons about being an orchestral musician in addition to picking up insider tips!
Being surrounded by exceptional peers allows for an inspiring experience where students can grow alongside their friends and build friendships around a shared passion. The SOI culminates in a performance at NEC’s Jordan Hall, celebrating the accomplishment and growth of its students.
